Jesus--The Disrupter | The Gospel of Mark (Msg 11) | Mark 2:18-22 | 10/30/22
Sunday Oct 30, 2022
Sunday Oct 30, 2022
Pastor Andrew Coleman preaches on Mark 2: 18-22 as we continue our expositional sermon series in the Gospel of Mark. This passage focuses on three analogies that Jesus uses to emphasize the difference between the fake religion of the Pharisees and the true faith of those who follow Jesus Christ. God is not interested in a show of religion, but he IS interested in true relationship with his people! In this passage, Jesus blasts away the false religion of works-based salvation. True salvation can only come through complete trust in Christ's righteousness and NOT in our own righteousness.

Pastor Ben Nistor preaches on Mark 2: 13-17 as we continue our expositional sermon series in the Gospel of Mark. This passage emphasizes what kind of Savior Jesus is--He is the Savior who eats with sinners. This sermon focuses on the company Christ keeps, and specifically the type of people he befriends. Christ does not follow the rules of his adversaries; rather, he obeys God's law. Christ can save people from any background. Christ does not condone sin, but he expects faith for righteous living. Christ experiences death so we can be redeemed and Christ expects faith so we can be righteous.

Pastor William Lawler preaches on Mark 2: 1-12 as we continue our expositional sermon series in the Gospel of Mark. This passage emphasizes that Jesus ALONE has the authority to forgive sins, so he ALONE deserves our trust and our worship! In this passage, a group of friends brings their paralyzed friend to Jesus. Their actions show great compassion for their friend, as well as incredible faith in Jesus. This story is a moving account that reminds us of Jesus' authority over all things--most importantly, the forgiveness of sins. Jesus' great power is also demonstrated by the incredible healing of the man's paralyzed body. When we see God's great authority and power, our natural response should be to worship our great God!

Pastor Jason Hill continues our sermon series in the book of the Gospel of Mark. This sermon is focused on Mark 1: 35-45, where Jesus demonstrates the priority of his mission on the earth--to preach repentance and faith and to be the Savior of the world. This passage specifically shows us Jesus' priority of prayer and of Jesus' healing of a leprous man. Our sermon today digs into how Jesus' priorities & mission should impact Christians' understanding of their own mission as believers and their understanding of the Gospel.

Pastor Jason Hill continues an expositional series in the Gospel of Mark and preaches on Mark 1: 29-34. This sermon emphasizes the COMPASSION of our great Healer—that Jesus came to heal the sick. Jesus' authority over all creation also means that he has all power as the compassionate Healer. His healing of Peter's mother-in-law and of others who were sick and diseased demonstrates his compassion and desire to offer people physical relief. His healing also points to an even greater reality, that regardless of physical healing on this earth, we can have eternal reconciliation with God. This sermon concludes with a biblical look at how Christians should view physical healing today.

Pastor Jason Hill continues an expositional series in the Gospel of Mark by preaching on Mark 1: 21-34. This sermon focuses on the ultimate power and authority that Jesus holds as Teacher. When Jesus spoke, people would respond in amazement, and even unclean spirits would expose themselves. Although not everyone responded in belief to Jesus's Word, everyone who heard him saw and recognized his authority. Jesus's Word holds authority over everything and everyone. As believers, we must ask ourselves how we respond to Jesus's Word. Do we simply acknowledge its truth and power but fight against it? Or do we hold it as authoritative in our lives and align our lives according to it?

In this expositional sermon, Enrique Rojas preaches on the calling of God's people to follow him in obedience and humility. Mark 1: 14-20 is about Jesus calling his disciples to follow him. In the same way, Jesus calls all true believers to follow him and to to be willing to give up the things of this world to follow the Lord and to share the Gospel with those around us. God is the one who receives the ultimate glory as we follow him.

Pastor Ben preaches on Christ's baptism, temptation and preaching. Mark 1: 1-15 is about Christ's coronation (his baptism) and how he conquers sin and Satan. The King calls everybody to repent and believe the good news that he has come to die for sinners and rise again. Those who conquer their sin through Christ can follow the LORD on his way.

Pastor Ben Nistor explains that 'the way of the Lord' is an important theme in the Gospel of Mark because it shows the journey Christ takes to get to the cross. Each Christian is called to follow Jesus Christ on his way. John the Baptist prepared this way for Jesus and gives us an example of loyalty, legitimacy, and lowliness as we embark on Christ's journey. Following Christ on the way of the Lord results in Christ increasing in our lives as we decrease.
