In today's sermon, Pastor Andrew Coleman preaches on Mark 15: 16-41. In this passage of the Gospel of Mark, we are brought to the cross. Here, Jesus willingly gives his life, facing the complete rejection, wrath and judgment of God, for the ultimate salvation of all who believe in him. We see God's control in every detail of the crucifixion account, from prophecies being perfectly fulfilled to the specific ordering of events and people involved, in order to perfectly fulfill God's plan for the redemption of the world.

Who’s on Trial? | Mark 15:1-20 | The Gospel of Mark (Msg 67) | 03/17/2024
Monday Mar 18, 2024
Monday Mar 18, 2024
In today's sermon, Pastor Andrew Coleman preaches on Mark 15: 1-20. In this passage we see the unlawful and discriminatory trial, the brutal torture, and the intense suffering that Jesus withstood for the sake of his people. As he faces the unfair trial before Pilate, it becomes clear that in reality, Jesus is not the one on trial--Pilate is.
Jesus, the King of the universe, could have left the situation at any moment. "Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?” (Matthew 26: 52-53). Jesus CHOSE to obey the Father and undergo immense suffering because of his great MERCY, LOVE, and GRACE toward his people. It is through him that we are saved!
"But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast" (Ephesians 2:4-9).

In today's sermon, Pastor Andrew Coleman preaches on Mark 14: 53-72, which details the account of Jesus' trial before the Jewish religious authorities, as well as the disciple Peter's denial of Jesus. This passage is heavy, as we observe the religious council's corruption in their fake "trial" of Jesus, the high priest's accusation of blasphemy against Jesus, and the council's determination that Jesus deserved to be condemned to death. Following this "trial", we see Peter deny his affiliation with Jesus three times and then break down in sorrow when he realizes his error. As we examine this passage, we observe that it is possible to deny Jesus Christ through our words, our actions, or even our inactions. Yet for a true believer (as in Peter's case), denying Christ in WORD or DEED will bring great sorrow.

In today's sermon, Pastor Jason Hill preaches on Mark 14: 43-52 on the account of Jesus' arrest and betrayal. In this passage, we see the theme of humanity's sin and depravity in turning away from Christ, as the religious leaders and even Judas Iscariot, Jesus' own disciple, turn on Jesus and arrest him. We see the sinful nature of other characters in the account, as many flee in fear of being incriminated with Jesus. Yet through it all, we see that Jesus knows and understands the problem of man's sin nature. He does not trust in man. He follows the sovereign plan of God. His desire is for the Scriptures to be fulfilled. Mark 14:48-49: "And Jesus said to them, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. But let the Scriptures be fulfilled.”

In this sermon, Pastor Andrew Coleman preaches on Mark 14: 26-42. Here, we see Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, preparing for the cross. As we look at this passage, let us meditate on the great plan of God for our salvation and the agony of Christ taking our sin on Himself. Let us consider the great weakness of our flesh and our dependence on the Spirit of God to obey. Let us rejoice in the great victory of Christ over our sin and death. Romans 1:1-4: "Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord..." Romans 6:4 "We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life."

Pastor Andrew Coleman preaches from Mark 14: 1-11, focusing on the contrast between those who reject and those who accept Jesus. In this passage, we see the sovereignty of God in his entire plan to redeem His people. There are those who are blinded to true faith by false religion. There are those who have fake faith and are self-deceived. Yet we see the overriding grace and plan of God as He saves his true people. "For while we were still helpless, at the
right time Christ died for the ungodly" (Romans 5:6).

Mark 13 is all about what Jesus says will happen with the destruction of the temple and his second coming. Two questions should guide our reading of Mark 13: 1) Is Jesus so precious to you that you’re willing to be handed over to death by your family for Christ’s sake? and 2) Is the mission of God so compelling to you that you’re willing to endure intense obstacles to see Christ glorified?
Pastor Ben focuses on three aspects of Mark 13 to demonstrate that Jesus's predictions about the destruction of the temple have wider implications for how we understand his second coming. Since Jesus's predictions concerning the temple's destruction were so accurate, his statements concerning his return are reliable, good, and true, God's involvement in the return of Christ will be perfect and intimate, and finally, we can have confidence that his promises and commands are good. In the end, every word of Christ will stand forever.

Pastor Andrew Coleman preaches on Mark 13: 1-31. This chapter is about a severe reckoning that is coming to Jerusalem and the world and the ultimate safety and salvation of God’s true people. It is about God’s coming judgment on the temple of the corrupt, failed and finished sacrificial system under the Mosaic Law.

In today's sermon, we continue our study in the Gospel of Mark and look at Mark 12: 38-44. In this passage, Jesus warns the disciples of the pretentious religiosity of the scribes and explains that this fake religion will only lead to greater condemnation. In this passage, we also see the generous sacrifice of a poor widow. Jesus commends her sacrificial giving to the disciples as a positive example.
