Monday Dec 04, 2023
In today's sermon, we continue our study in the Gospel of Mark and look at Mark 12: 35-37. In this passage, we see that the attempts by the religious establishment to trap Jesus and to turn the crowds against him failed miserably. Now, Jesus challenges the scribes’ assumption that the messiah is merely a human descendant of the line of David. He does so compassionately and reasonably, explaining and showing from Scripture that the son of David is truly the Son of God--the eternal, saving Lord.

In today's sermon, we continue our study in the Gospel of Mark and look at Mark 12: 28-34. In this account, we see a scribe question Jesus. We notice the simplicity and clarity of the scribe's question and Jesus' response. We see that Jesus’ scriptural answer is the ultimate summation of God’s intent for people--to love God with our ENTIRE self and to love others as we love ourselves.

In today's sermon, we continue our study in the Gospel of Mark and look at Mark 12: 18-27. In past sermons, we have already seen people attempt to trap Jesus in his words. Today, we see the Sadducees try to trick Jesus with a question. Jesus responds to their question with ANOTHER question, and in his response, he points out how foolish their religiosity is and how unbelieving their hearts are. In this account, Jesus helps to turn our eyes from the earthly to the eternal, and he emphasizes the importance of having a true relationship with HIM versus relying on fake religiosity.

In today's sermon, Pastor Andrew Coleman continues our series in the Gospel of Mark as we look at Mark 12: 13-17. In this passage, we see the hypocrisy of the Pharisees and the Herodians as they come to Jesus with a question, intending to trap him in his words. They tried to appear spiritual and genuine in their question, but they were really seeking to turn the people and the Romans against Jesus. Jesus, however, saw through their ulterior motives, and he answered them in a simple and profound way that completely silenced them and astounded them.

In today's sermon, Pastor Andrew preaches on Mark 12: 1-12. In our previous message from Mark 11:27-33, the chief priests, teachers of the law and elders were confronting Jesus more directly and intensely than before. They questioned by what authority he threw the money changers and thieves out of the temple just before Passover. Jesus now answers them by a parable--and this time they get it! The parable of the vineyard points to the truth that It’s not about the Israel’s goodness (or our goodness), but God's GRACIOUSNESS toward us! His salvation will come to all who receive and honor Him… not just this nation of Israel He chose to love. His wrath will come to all who reject and dishonor Him… including this nation of Israel He chose to love.

In today's sermon, Pastor Jason Hill preaches on Mark 11: 27-33. In this passage, we see the Sanhedrin challenge Jesus and try to incriminate him with their questions. As believers observing the interaction between the Sanhedrin and Jesus, we must ask ourselves--are we more concerned about our status or position with others than about exalting Christ and submitting to Jesus’ authority and lordship in our lives? Do we find ourselves fearing man and his opinion more than God?

In today's sermon, we continue our sermon series in the Gospel of Mark and study Mark 11: 20-25. In this passage, we get a glimpse at Jesus' teaching on effective prayer--what effective prayer is and how we can employ it in our lives. Jesus teaches us that effective prayer is really centered on God and his glory. Effective prayer is not about us, and yet we often manage to make it about ourselves instead of God and His glory. We must seek to center our hearts on God and his Kingdom, relying on him in confidence and faith as we pray for his will to be done.

In today's sermon, we continue our study in the book of Mark and look at Mark 11: 12-20. In this passage, we see two scenarios—one, of Jesus cursing the fig tree, and two, of Jesus throwing the money changers from the temple. These two are connected in an important way. We notice Jesus’s judgment of the fig tree as a prefigured judgment of the temple. Then, we see Jesus’s judgment of fraudulent religion in the temple as He expresses His holy wrath and rage against this great ungodliness of thievery and hypocrisy. In these accounts, we see that having the foliage of religion is not necessarily indicative of the fruit of a true relationship with God. We must ask ourselves—does Jesus need to clear some things out of the temple of your heart?
Are there fraudulent attitudes or actions that hinder the purity of your worship?

In today's sermon, we continue our study in the book of Mark and look at Mark 11: 1-11. In this passage, we see that Jesus is worthy of praise! We see that Jesus willingly lays down His life to save sinners, because he wants to redeem us. We see Jesus demonstrate that he is a righteous, humble, peaceful deliverer by his entry into Jerusalem on a lowly donkey. Ultimately, we see that Jesus is the Lord of lords and King of kings, and that one day Jesus will return again, appearing triumphantly on a white horse (Revelation 19: 11-16). Jesus ultimately intends to right the wrongs of our fallen world. He wants us to hope in His sovereign rule and final verdict, and He will settle all matters when He returns!

In today's sermon, we continue our study in the book of Mark and look at Mark 10: 36-52, where we read the account of the blind man Bartimaeus encountering Jesus Christ.
